Some ThinkHub Education Classrooms have extra displays (Docks) and/or Student Stations that the Instructor Station can share content to. Let’s take a look at the difference between docking and casting content:
The difference between casting and docking content is based on where you want your content to go.
Dock -> Sends your content to a secondary display around the room
Cast -> Sends your content to Student Stations. This will temporarily override any content that is currently displayed, such as a student's screen share. As soon as you stop casting, the previous content will resume.
What are the advantages of casting versus docking?
If you want a specific piece of content to appear on the Student Stations, we recommend you cast this content so it appears on all Student Stations. This is typically used during lectures or presentations, when you want everyone to pay attention to the content you are sharing.
If you are sharing instructions for a group activity, or want to share some information while students are collaborating at their Student Stations, we recommend you dock your content so it doesn’t interfere with student group work. In hybrid classes, we recommend Docking your videoconference window, so the room can see remote participants.
How to Cast content
To send a live feed of an individual piece of content (Powerpoint, Pdf, Screen share, etc) from the Instructor Station (ThinkHub) to Student Stations, select the content you wish to share.
When the border appears around the content window, indicating you are in an active state, a 'Cast' icon will appear in the upper left corner of the content window. Select this to broadcast a live feed of your content to Student Stations.
As you manipulate content (annotate, advance slides, etc), those changes will be reflected on the Student Stations in real time.
How to Dock Content
To send a live feed of an individual piece of content (Powerpoint, Pdf, Screen share, etc) from the ThinkHub Canvas to a docked screen, select the content you wish to share.
When the border appears around the content window, indicating you are in an active state, a 'Dock' icon will appear in the upper left corner of the content window. Select ‘Dock’ to send a live feed of your content to secondary display monitors around the room.
As you manipulate content (annotate, advance slides, etc), those changes will be reflected on the monitors in real time.
